Tilt Shift Rescue

As part of the year long 'Little Sydney' project, filmmaker Keith Loutit has been releasing short films from the project on Vimeo. This film features a fisherman who missteps and becomes stranded in the ocean, prompting the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service to come to the rescue. As Keith says on his page, "This film is 100% 'real'". It is also 100% beautiful.

Shit man, that's new and indeed beautiful. The landscapes look like miniatures. How he does that?

I though that said "Tit Shift Rescue" at first... what a shame.

Essentially the lens of the camera is tilted while the camera body itself remains stationary. There is actually a lot more to it but the end result is a very shallow depth of field, creating the miniature feeling. There is software now that can fake it but I'm pretty sure he does it the real way with a special lens.
