iPhone Apps Go Beyond Lightsaber Noises

When the initial wave of 3rd party iPhone applications were released, as expected most were not exactly useful or worthwhile. There were a few gems that began to show the true potential of utilizing the iPhone's built-in technology. But when mechanical and aerospace engineers start designing apps, that's when you know you are in for something good. Dr. Craig Hunter, of Hunter Research and Technology, LLC, has developed a number of very cool apps that really start to push the 3rd party development into an exciting place.

GreenMeter (seen above) tracks and displays acceleration and engine power in a motorized vehicle (for most people this would be your car). It can also, then compute the fuel economy, fuel cost, carbon footprint, and oil consumption of you car. Thus, leading to the knowledge necessary for you to optimize your driving. And the world joins hands and sings.
